Tenerife’s Most Popular Resorts
Playa de las Americas – let’s start with the biggest, boldest and most brash resort on Tenerife – although the brash is starting to head quite noticeably upmarket these days. Fabulous long beaches, a variety of bars and clubs, great hotels. Playa de las Americas has it all. Whether your mode of transport is car, yacht, Jet Ski or paraglider you’ll feel at home here. Waterparks and other amusements are available to keep the kids occupied while you chance your arm with a game of roulette or take the worries of the world away with a relaxing spa.
Los Cristianos – Los Cristianos is the older sister to the lively Playa de las Americas. It has grown from an old colonial town and fishing village, upwards and outwards until now one can walk from Los Cristianos to Playa del las Americas and not discern where one begins and the other ends. Initially it grew around the famous Timeshare resort Hollywood Mirage – now dwarfed by other bigger complexes. Sheltered waters, calm sea and lots of old charm.
Costa Adeje – To the other side of the thriving Playa de las Americas is the more sedate and secluded Costa Adeje, it offers much in the way of more exclusive bars and restaurants, as well as beautiful beaches, all just a short taxi ride away from its 24/7 big sister.
Los Gigantes – Among the many spectacular sights on Tenerife none compare with the majestic cliffs of Los Gigantes, at their highest they tower at over 800m and make an imposing sight to the mariner approaching Tenerife from the north-west. A bustling little town and marina have grown up at their feet and today Los Gigantes is home to popular tourist resort.
Puerta de la Cruz – In the slightly more temperate north and subject to slightly more cloud cover but dripping in colonial elegance and possessing great charm. Puerta de la Cruz is the northern, older equivalent of the bustling southern resorts. Home to the famed Loro Parque zoo and park complex and the fabulous lagoon like swimming complex of Lago Maritanez – Puerto de las Cruz is well worth a visit
Golf del Sur – If a round of golf appeals to you then you will love the purpose built golfing resort of Golf del Sur. Situated in the southern half of the island Golf del Sur is a sort taxi ride away from the lively resorts of Los Cristianos and Playa del las Americas, but benefits from its relative seclusion and relaxing golf course rich surroundings.
